Belvedere is a residential incorporated city in Marin County, California, United States, situated on the San Francisco Bay. It is linked to the Tiburon Peninsula by two causeways and consists of two islands and a lagoon. The population was 2,126 at the time of the 2020 census. Belvedere citizens had a per-capita (per person) income of $250,000 in 2000, but it now has an average income of $283,000, making it one of California's wealthiest communities and the ninth wealthiest town in the US (highest with a population of over 1,000 residents). The 94920 ZIP code is shared by both Belvedere and Tiburon. Residents of Belvedere have views of San Francisco, Angel Island, Sausalito, the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco and Richardson Bays, and Mount Tamalpais, depending on where their residences are placed. Houses on the Belvedere and Corinthian Islands span a wide variety of eras and architectural styles, from Victorian to Mediterranean to "mid-century modern" post-and-beam construction. Many of them are "cliffhangers." Architects designed the houses on the Belvedere Lagoon in the 1950s and 1960s. The lagoon houses have their own boat docks. The docks on Belvedere and Corinthian Islands provide access to San Francisco Bay for many of the properties. The Valentine Rey House, designed by Willis Polk and erected in 1893, is one of many Belvedere residences on the National Register of Historic Places. Joseph Esherick, Albert Farr, who built the Belvedere Land Company building and cottages, Henry Gutterson, and Charles Warren Callister were among the notable residential designers in Belvedere.
